Volunteers reach out to Peninsula Seniors

Once a week, Beulah Rykaart, 36, visits 96-year-old Helen Bateman in her south Surrey home.

The two go on walks, discuss their shared passion for gardening and exchange family stories.

The two met through Friendly Visitors, a program which matches volunteers with seniors who live on their own and are in need of friendship.

Rykaart learned of the opportunity through Peace Portal Alliance Church, which recruits members for the Senior Support Services program.
